Antigua, also known as Waladli or Wadadli by the native population, is an island in the West Indies. It is one of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean region and the main island of the country of Antigua and Barbuda.

About Antigua

Antigua has a land area of 108 sq. miles located at latitude 17°  5′ North and longitude 61° 45′ West in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean.

Antigua is about 13 miles across with a coastline peppered with numerous coves and bays, many with beautiful white-sand beaches. The south-west corner is hilly, rising to Boggy Peak, the island’s highest point.

The Language

The official language is Antigua is English. The Barbudan accent is slightly different from the Antiguan. In the years before Antigua and Barbuda’s independence, Standard English was widely spoken in preference to Antiguan Creole.
